What we change on your system
Hypermile is a local proxy. When you enable wiring it edits client config
so Claude Code / Codex talk through 127.0.0.1. Everything is
reversible from Settings → Uninstall, or by quitting with auto-unwire.
Claude Code
-
~/.claude/settings.json(Windows:%USERPROFILE%\.claude\settings.json) — anenvblock settingANTHROPIC_BASE_URLto the local proxy, fenced with Hypermile markers. A timestamped backup is written before every edit. - Optional WSL copy of the same settings inside your distro, pointing at the Windows-host proxy via mirrored networking.
Codex
-
~/.codex/config.toml— a provider block withOPENAI_BASE_URL/ base URL override. Backed up before edit; removed on unwire.
Hypermile’s own data (local only)
-
Config / license / logs under your OS app-data directory
(
%APPDATA%\Hypermile,~/Library/Application Support/Hypermile, or~/.config/Hypermile). -
store.db— compressed-request analytics + reversible originals (purgable from Settings). usage.db— transcript-derived burn / forecast events.settings.json,license.json, wiring state, logs.
What we never do
- Never upload prompts, completions, or originals by default.
- Never log API keys or Authorization headers.
- Cloud sync (if you opt in) sends token/project aggregates only — never message bodies.
