Terms of service
Who this covers
Hypermile (https://hypermile.dev) — the website, the MIT
hypermile-audit CLI, the desktop app, and paid Pro licenses.
The CLI is also MIT-licensed; if the MIT license and these terms conflict
for the CLI source, MIT wins for that source.
The product
Hypermile is a local usage copilot for coding agents. Gauge (the local audit and the CLI) is free. Pro is a paid license that unlocks compression, the live forecast, the inspector, and related paid features. We do not read your Claude or Codex account to pick a price.
What the app may change on disk is listed at what we change. Uninstall restores those client-config edits.
Your license
Gauge: personal use of the free features on machines you control. Pro: a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license tied to the key we email after payment. Do not share, resell, or publish keys. We may revoke a key that is leaked, chargeback’d, or used in a way that breaks these terms.
Billing
Pro is billed by Stripe. Paid purchases are final. Cancel anytime to stop the next renewal. The full rules are in Refunds & billing below. Completing checkout means you have read that section.
Acceptable use
Don’t reverse-engineer the paid app to bypass licensing, don’t use Hypermile to break Anthropic, OpenAI, or other provider terms, and don’t attack our servers or other users. The proxy fails open if it dies: your agent talks to the provider directly again.
No warranty
The software is provided “as is.” We do not promise that compression will save a given number of tokens, that you will avoid a usage cap, or that model quality is unchanged. We are not liable for data loss, missed caps, or provider bills. Liability, if any, is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, except where the law forbids that cap.
Privacy
Local-first by default. See Privacy. Optional dashboard sync uploads usage aggregates only, never prompts or originals.
Refunds & billing
This section applies to paid Pro licenses. Gauge and the MIT audit CLI are free and are not billed.
No refunds
Paid purchases are final. We do not refund, credit, or prorate Pro (or any future paid plan), including unused time in the current billing period and unused time on an annual plan. That includes “I changed my mind,” “it didn’t save as much as I hoped,” “I already hit my cap,” and “I uninstalled.”
Pro is a low-price digital license. The key is emailed as soon as Stripe
confirms payment, and you can use the product immediately. Gauge — the
local audit in the app and the MIT hypermile-audit CLI — is
free forever so you can see your usage before you pay.
Cancel anytime
Canceling is not a refund. Cancel when you want to stop the next renewal. You keep Pro until the period you already paid for ends; then the license drops back to Gauge. We do not refund the remainder of a month or a year.
Until Stripe Customer Portal is live, email [email protected] from the address you used at checkout and we will cancel the subscription at the end of the current period.
What we will fix
We will refund or reverse a charge only in these cases:
- We failed to deliver. Stripe shows a successful payment and we never sent a working license key (or the key cannot be activated because of a fault on our side).
- We billed you twice for the same period, or charged the wrong amount because of our or Stripe’s error.
- The law requires it. If a court or regulator requires a refund, we will follow that order. This policy does not try to take away rights you cannot waive.
Email [email protected] with the Stripe receipt or the last four of the card and the date. If we refund, we revoke the license for that payment.
Chargebacks
Opening a dispute with your bank instead of emailing us is treated as a
refunded charge. The license is revoked
(charge.refunded → invalid). If you believe the charge is
wrong, write first — duplicate charges are in the list above.
EEA and UK buyers
Buying Pro starts immediate digital delivery (the license key). By completing checkout you ask us to start that delivery and acknowledge that you lose the usual 14-day distance-selling withdrawal right once the key is issued, to the extent the law allows. If that waiver does not apply to you, the “law requires it” exception above still does.
