Gemini CLI usage limits: what we know (and what Hypermile doesn’t support yet)
Last reviewed July 2026.
Short answer: Gemini CLI usage limits are Google’s quotas and plan ceilings on the Gemini agent CLI / related coding surfaces — not Claude’s 5-hour + weekly clocks. Exact numbers change; verify against Google’s docs for your account. Hypermile does not support Gemini CLI yet (as of July 2026). This page exists so searchers get an honest answer and a clear product roadmap note — not a fake “works with Gemini” claim.
Honest status first
| Client | Hypermile status (July 2026) |
|---|---|
| Claude Code | Full support — Windows, macOS, Linux |
| Codex | Full support via provider config |
| Cursor | Partial only — Cursor’s cloud path cannot be fully proxied |
| Gemini CLI | Not supported yet — connector planned, not shipping |
If you need a tool that works today, stay on Claude Code usage limits or how to check your Codex usage. Do not install Hypermile expecting Gemini compression or forecasting yet.
How Gemini CLI limits differ in spirit
Claude Code on a paid Claude plan is gated by Anthropic’s subscription usage model: a rolling 5-hour window and a weekly limit. Gemini CLI sits in Google’s ecosystem — API keys, Gemini Code Assist entitlements, and project-level quotas depending on how you authenticate. The pain is familiar (you hit a wall mid-task); the meters are not identical.
Because Google retunes quotas, this page deliberately avoids fabricating request-per-minute or daily token figures. When you hit a Gemini CLI limit, the product message and Google Cloud / AI Studio consoles are the source of truth for reset timing.
What to do when you hit a Gemini CLI limit
- Read the error — note whether it cites quota, rate, or plan.
- Check the Google console for the project/key that backs the CLI.
- Reduce context size and concurrency the same way you would on any agent CLI (smaller tool output, fewer speculative reads).
- If you are evaluating Hypermile for Gemini specifically: wait for a shipped connector announcement — we will not soft-launch by lying in SEO copy.
Why publish this before the connector?
Search demand for Gemini CLI limits is small but real (nascent, as of July 2026 keyword data). Shipping an honest page now:
- Answers the query without overclaiming
- Sets expectations for Windows developers who already use Claude Code + Gemini side by side
- Gives us a URL to update the day support actually lands
That honesty is the differentiator. Fake “full Gemini support” badges are how trust dies.
If you use Claude Code or Codex today
Hypermile is built for you now: local audit, usage forecast, and reversible compression on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Start from the Claude Code on Windows hub or download the app.
Gemini CLI wiring (experimental)
Desktop Settings can set GEMINI_API_BASE_URL in ~/.gemini/settings.json so recent Gemini CLI builds dial the local proxy (/gemini/* → Google’s Generative Language API). Traffic is passthrough today — Anthropic-shaped compression stages do not rewrite Gemini payloads yet. Treat the toggle as experimental until E2E is green. Cursor remains partial by design.
Frequently asked questions
Does Hypermile support Gemini CLI today?
No. As of July 2026, Hypermile supports Claude Code and Codex fully, with Cursor only partially. A Gemini CLI connector is planned but not shipping — this page is honest pre-positioning, not a claim of support.
What are Gemini CLI usage limits?
Google’s Gemini CLI and related Gemini Code Assist / API surfaces meter usage through Google’s own quotas and plan tiers. Exact windows and ceilings differ from Claude’s 5-hour and weekly subscription model. Always verify against Google’s current documentation for the product you are using.
Is Gemini CLI limited like Claude Code?
Both are capped agent CLIs, but they are not the same meters. Claude Code on Pro/Max uses Anthropic’s rolling 5-hour window plus weekly cap. Gemini CLI follows Google’s quota and plan rules. Do not assume the Claude clocks apply one-to-one.
When will Hypermile add Gemini?
After the Windows Claude Code and Codex experience is solid. We would rather publish an honest “coming” page than pretend a connector exists. Watch the changelog and download page for when support actually lands.
